Most Terrible Things

Ewan Lemens, 10
Eberwhite Elementary

I looked out of the window, as sad as can be,
As the most terrible things were happening to me.
My dog had just died,
My friend had lied.
I fell out a window,
I broke my Nintendo.
I crashed my new car into a bar,
I threw my best ball way too far.
My house caught on fire,
I punctured my tire.
I knocked over my favorite vase,
Bees stung me a bunch in the face.
A bookshelf fell on me,
I lost my ability to see.
My favorite book fell into water,
But I did get to see a baby otter.
As you can see,
I’m as sad as can be.

A Demon Creeping

Ewan Lemens, 10
Eberwhite Elementary

It was a dark and stormy night at the Detroit Institute of Art. There was a demon creeping around. A guard was watching over the prints and drawings section when he started to hear noises in the food court, so he decided to check it out. When he got there, he saw nothing so he started to head out. When he heard his stomach grumble, so he got a snack. When he got back to the section, he noticed a painting was different. He saw a shadowy-like creature. Then, in the next few seconds, it was gone.

At the American art section, a guard was noticing strange sounds in the great hall so she went to check it out. She noticed nothing, so she went back to the American art section, where she felt a cold hand on her ankle—and she was tripped. When she stood back up, she saw a shadowy creature jump  into a painting and disappear. She walked over to a painting and noticed three shadowy creatures sitting on people in white dresses. Meanwhile, in the heavily guarded European sections, guards and curators were noticing strange things in the paintings. One saw a golden stone-like creature hiding in the shadows of one painting. Another said he saw a shadowy creature with red eyes hiding in the bushes. So they all met in the main circulation area to discuss the differences in the paintings. When they walked back into the section they noticed all the paintings with the creatures had disappeared.

On the third floor in the British section, one guard looked up at The Nightmare by Henry Fuseli and noticed that what people had been seeing (the shadowy creatures) were originally from that picture. So he stared at it for a while, when he felt a swish of wind behind him. He looked back and saw nothing, so he turned back and looked and the painting and noticed the demon creature wasn’t there.

The Case of the Mysterious Michigan Jersey

Ewan Lemens, Age 9

One day, this random guy, a Michigan fan of course, was selling a number four jersey. What he didn’t know was that the jersey he was selling was haunted—the former number four of Michigan’s football team. The story began by the random guy selling a Michigan jersey. Somebody walked by—he was a State fan, however, so he didn’t buy it. Fifty fans walked by; thirteen of them wanted to buy it. The thirteen who wanted to buy it asked what the price was. The random guy said the price was forty-nine ninety-nine, so none of them wanted to buy it. During the game, nobody was walking by. The streets were empty. Just then, something magical happened. The jersey moved by itself. It killed the random guy who was selling it. The next day, the jersey was there just lying on the ground with no man near it. So the police called in detective Smith to solve the mystery. He was the best detective in the city. The reason everybody knew about it was that somebody saw it happen and told everybody. On that day, detective Smith began his job…

How to be the Worst Baseball Player Ever!

Ewan Lemens, Age 9
Eberwhite Elementary
  1. Keep your eyes closed. This way you will not be able to see the ball, causing you to miss ground balls and line drives, and never see the ball when you’re batting so you can’t hit it.
  2. Walk. Your coach will get mad at you for not hustling. Plus, you won’t get to the base in time, so you’ll always be out. Plus a runner could pass you and that runner would be out.
  3. Swing the bat long and loopy. You’ll always miss the ball and never hit it. Plus you could accidentally let go of your bat and hit someone and you will be called out.
  4. Don’t know what position you’re playing and get in an argument with a teammate.
  5. Don’t know where you’re batting in the line-up. If you bat out of order, you will be called out. And your coach won’t be happy!

Toasty Toaster & Butter Popcorn

Ewan Lemens, 8
Eberwhite Elementary

Once upon a time there were two kids. One was named Toasty Toaster and the other’s name was Butter Popcorn and this is a story of how Butter helped Toasty.

One morning Toasty woke up not able to make toast and he needed to make some for his parents. So Toasty calls butter to help him so butter gets directions from his dad how to fix a toaster. After he got the directions he asked his dad to borrow his tools and ladder. So Butter makes a paper airplane and flies himself to Toasty’s house. When Butter gets there he tries to use the ladder to get up on the counter where Toasty is. On his first attempt he was almost up to the counter when he falls off. On his second attempt he’s almost there when the ladder starts to fall down so he grabs on to a trash can handle and falls into the trash can. Butter thinks he cannot get out but an idea sparks into his head. I should use the tools to climb up the trash can and up on the counter. After he got up he tried to fix Toasty but since the tools were broken from the climb they caught on fire and he threw them in the sink.

“Okay,” said Toasty, “Now are you going to fix me?”

“Wait,” said Butter. “I just noticed what’s wrong. It’s that you’re unplugged.”
“Why’d I never notice that?” said Toasty.

Untitled

Every single day I wake up, so something, and eat breakfast. When I pour the milk on the cereal and hear Snap, Crackle, Pop and when I hear it it makes me even more hungry and eager to eat it. When I eat the scrumptious taste I feel so good.

Suddenly, a huge meteor hits right outside my window. My house begins to shake like an earthquake. I smell smoke. All the milk in my cereal bowl just splashes in my face. Now I don’t feel good anymore. Instead I feel scared rather. Even though I was scared, I checked outside to look at it and it looks like a planet with craters, except not round.
As soon as I blink, the meteor is gone and I feel like I just had a dream. I came inside and I poured myself a new bowl of cereal and I notice it feels quieter than before.
