The Phenomenon

Madhav Sivadasan, Age 9
Lawton Elementary

Chapter 1—Poison

One creeeepy Halloween, a fisherman was boating down the Huron River at Gallup Park. Suddenly, the water was turning green. The fisherman turned his head. He scratched his head. What is this? he thought.

Chapter 2—What is This?

This was crazy. The fish were no longer jumping. They sunk. They were dead. How can green water kill fish? he thought.

Chapter 3—Time for Thrill

A tentacle was coming three inches over the water. The water was low. Definitely short arms. Ooh, the fisherman thought. This is it.

Chapter 4—Information

It floated above water. Malicious red eyes. Dirty. Mud all over it. Noisy chirping sound. The biggest crab. The king crab.

Chapter 5—Heartbeat

Tree frogs were hiding in their tree. “Aaaah,” the fisherman screamed in terror. The phenomenon was dunking below the water and came up.

Chapter 6—Safety

The fisherman was rowing for his life. The phenomenon jumped up. The phenomenon hit the concrete. The blood was a yucky, dirty brown and black ooze. It came out of its tentacle. It sunk.

Chapter 7—Thank Goodness

This was a yucky and horrible experience for the fisherman. He ran to the coffee shop. The owner said, “Do you need any help?” The fisherman panted. “Get rid of this creature,” he said. “Okay,” said the owner. “Just pour this oil into the river.”

Chapter 8—Home Finally

The fisherman did as he was told. Lightning struck. He ran to his car. He went down Huron Parkway. Home. Great. Yay. He ran inside. He ate dinner and got into bed. And that’s all.

Poem About Broccoli

Bumpy like bark
Rubbery like an eraser
Optimistic that it will be delicious
Coral-like
Crunchy
Oblivious in my mouth
Like a toothbrush
Interesting

Mission

Madhav Sivadasan, Age 8
Lawton Elementary

“Wake up, Frank,” Andrew called. Andrew was a pig, and Frank was a snail. Andrew could fly and Frank could talk. They were going on their first mission. Frank and Andrew went to Uranus. Aaah! There were space aliens. They heard Andrew and Frank. Andrew flew back to the NASA rocket. Frank took his time, because he was small and microscopic. They were getting late. A hologram of Elizabeth (their owner) told them to hurry. They flew back to Earth and went to New York. And they went to their cages on 4287 Main St. They said hello to Steve, Elizabeth’s brother. Elizabeth’s mother, Martha, pet both of them. Now they were considered an important part of a huge family. Frank and Andrew felt nervous and relieved. They saw aliens and rocks coming straight toward Uranus. They told this all to the family.

Sarah was a woman who was very pretty. She loved and loved to eat apples. Today she yearned to go to the South Pole. Her parents told her she couldn’t go. Sarah was part-giant, very kind, but terrorized the people. When she was angry, she destroyed a forest to calm herself. She was angry, but she went to the South Pole in secret from Colombia to the South Pole. When she came back, she confessed to her parents, her parents said nothing, kissed her, and she lived happily ever after.
