Deep, Deep Hole

Ethan Massie, age 11
Slauson Middle School

Once there was a robot getting made and his name was bot-boy. One day he went outside and got lost and he looked and looked but he just got farther away. The next day he met a robot named green-bot and he was lost, too.

One day, they saw a hole and then they flew into it, and then they both ran out of gas and fell. They got stuck in the deep, deep hole and they looked around and saw a robot named E-T.

E-T was old and powerful, so E-T got them back to their homes. The end.

Blue Bot

Lily Soldan, age 9
Burns Park Elementary

Great job Blue Bot, you saved the town once again. Okay hold on, so my name is Blue Bot and I’m a hero bot. I was made by Doctor Zero. He’s a great guy. He made me in his lab so I can be there whenever someone needs me.

I am a little robot. I’m about four inches tall and I can do big things. I live with Max. He takes care of me and activates me whenever someone is in trouble. Max is my best friend and we make a great team.

Today is a special day. Doctor is going to give me a present. Max deactivates me so I don’t find out what the present is and he takes me to see Doctor. He activates me and there is a big box right in front of me. Doctor is standing next to his assistant Sally. She is really nice. Max is right behind me and he nods. That means I can open the present now. I tear it open and it is the box that Max carries me in, but Max is holding mine. I look at Doctor and he is wearing a watch just like Max’s, the one he uses to activate me. But instead of being blue it is pink.

Am I going to get a friend? Doctor presses a button on the watch and the box opens. Standing inside is a robot just like me but she is pink and she has a bow. She is asleep and not awake yet. Doctor presses another button and she wakes up. Doctor says her name is Rosebot. She is shy and runs behind Doctor’s legs. I tell her it is okay, we are the same. She comes out from behind Doctor’s legs and just looks at me. She looks up at Doctor and he nods, she smiles and says, “friends.”

Not-Buddy-Bud

Maia Sears, age 11
Fortis Academy

Buddy-Not-Bud, Not-Bud-Buddy, and Not-Buddy-Bud

One day there was a creator who loved making robots. He made a robot one day and named it Buddy-Not-Bud. The creator made the robot so that the robot could do all of the chores he had to do.

Suddenly, after years of doing all of the orders from Buddy-Not-Bud’s creator, he realized he didn’t want to be his servant his whole entire life. He ran off to a different location far, far away from the location of his old home.

When Buddy-Not-Bud realized what he was doing was not the best idea he had in his life, it was pretty clear that it was too late to turn back to his old home. He regretted everything he did. He also realized that he needed a special kind of food energy source, that only his creator had for him. That was when he started feeling hungry because he was thinking about food.

Ironically, there was another robot that got in the same situation as Buddy-Not-Bud! There was a robot that ditched his creator because of mistreatment. The robot’s name was Not-Bud-Buddy. It was kind of like Buddy-Not-Bud’s name but switched around. Not-Bud-Buddy felt just like Buddy-Not-Bud.

Ironically, again, there was another robot named Not-Buddy-Bud.

Anna & Mickey

Elina Palapattu, age 10
Burns Park Elementary

“Boom!” Mickey’s spaceship landed on earth. “I’m here,” he announced. He looked around. Green floors and blue air. For some reason there was fluffy white cotton candy mixed in with the blue air. He examined his surroundings some more. Mickey was NOT one to get mad, but he was a little confused. He was supposed to be visiting his brother on Planet Vapor, but somehow he had ended up here.

Mickey was very clumsy, so he was sure he wasn’t that far away. For now though, he needed to find a place to stay for the night. Then he saw a thick brown thing with green stuff coming out of it.

He climbed it (he was good at that) and looked around. His spaceship had vanished, and it seemed to be getting darker. All the colors were swirling in the sky: pink, yellow, and orange. He scanned his surroundings then stopped. (Mickey did not know how to read, but he had more vocabulary than most humans). There was a sign that read “H-O-U-S-T-O-N P-A-R-K.”

“Hoopan prk,” he said. “Cool,” he added. Mickey decided to rest for the night, then track down his spaceship in the morning. Just as he started to fall asleep, something approached him.

“Hi,” it said.

“AHHHHH,” Mickey screamed. “Get away from me you creature!” It backed away.

“I’m just a girl,” she said. She peered a little closer. “What are you?” she asked.

“I am a robot,” Mickey said, “duh.”

The girl's eyes widened. “I’ve always wanted to meet a robot,” she said. She put out her hand. “I’m Anna, age eight.”

Mickey slapped the hand. “I’m clumsy . . . I mean, Mickey, age . . . I don't know.”

Anna smiled, “Nice to meet you, Mickey. But when someone puts out their hand you’re supposed to shake it.”

“Ohhh.”

Anna smiled again. She smiles a lot. “You can come home with me,” she said.

“Yay!” he replied. He hopped down and of course fell.

“Mickey listen to me,” she said strictly. “You can’t let anyone else see you,” she said. Mickey’s smile vanished.

“Anna,” her mom called, “Let’s go.”

Mickey followed Anna home. Thankfully, the mom was busy with her sister who was throwing a HUGE tantrum. Mickey—since he was a robot—ran super fast behind.
When they got home, Mickey followed Anna to her room. Anna locked the door behind her. Mickey looked around to find lots of weird things. Anna smiled again. Mickey suddenly remembered his brother. “I have to find my brother,” he said. “I forgot.”

Anna’s smile vanished immediately. “Oh,” she whispered.

“You know what?” Mickey said, “I think I’ll stay right here.” Her smile reappeared. They held hands and walked out of the room together. Anna and Mickey. Not caring about what's ahead.

The end. For now . . .
