826michigan is a nonprofit writing and tutoring center for students aged 6 to 18. 826michigan serves more than 3,700 school-aged students with programs in Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor, and Detroit. A volunteer-driven organization with a focus on creativity and fun, 826michigan offers after-school tutoring in three locations, in-class support to teachers, a dynamic menu of writing workshops, field trip offerings for K-12, and publishing opportunities for our students. Our services are structured around the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success.
826 was founded on the principle that everyone deserves the opportunity to become a better writer and build a better future. We are proud to offer our student programs, events, and activities completely free of charge. 826michigan is funded by charitable grants; revenue from our storefronts, the Liberty Street Robot Supply & Repair and the Detroit Robot Factory (available world-wide here); and contributions, both big and small, from our friends and neighbors in the community.
